Begüm, şarkı söylemeye tutkuyla bağlı genç bir kadındır. Ancak geçirdiği bir kazada hem işitme yetisini hem de dansçı sevgilisini kaybeder. Film, geçmişin renkli ve müzik dolu anlarıyla, bugünün sessiz ve mesafeli gerçekliği arasında gidip gelir. Şimdiki zamanda Begüm, tıpkı kendisi gibi işitme engelli biriyle yakın bir bağ kurar, ancak işaret dili öğrenmeyi reddeder çünkü bu, kayıplarını kabullenmek anlamına gelir. Yanındaki kişi ona aşık olurken, Begüm'ün bu ilişkiyi bir tür kaçış olarak kullanması aralarındaki dengeyi bozar. Resonate, bir kadının yasla, bedenle ve diliyle barışma sürecini incelikle işler.

Begüm is a young woman with a deep love for singing but after a tragic accident, she loses both her hearing and the dancer she loved. The film moves between the vibrant past, filled with music and connection, and the quiet present, where Begüm distances herself from the world and from herself. In the present, she forms a close bond with someone who, like her, communicates through sign language. Yet Begüm refuses to learn it. Accepting the language would mean accepting her loss. While her friend harbors unspoken feelings and tries to stay by her side, he begins to sense he’s only a placeholder for what Begüm has lost. Resonate is a delicate exploration of grief, identity, and learning to live in the silence.

1) SINIF / İÇ - GÜNDÜZ

    Pınar Hoca sosyal psikoloji dersini anlatır. Yazı yazan kalem sesi... Saatin tık tık sesi… Kahve içme sesi… Klavye sesi… Bu karışık seslerin hepsi bir melodi oluşturur. Begüm mırıldanır. Vural’ın ayakları melodiye uyumlu ritim tutar. Bu melodinin sesi yükselir. Begüm ritim tutan ayakları fark eder, kafasını sesin geldiği yere, sola, çevirir. Vural ritim tutarak hafif dans hareketleri yapar. Begüm gülümser, Vural bunu fark edip kafasını çevirir. Begüm utanıp gözünü kaçırır. Vural gülümser.

 

2) BANYO / İÇ - AKŞAMÜSTÜ

Begüm başını kaldırmış, gözleri kapalı kendini suyun akışına bırakmıştır. Sonra yüzünü yıkar ve arkasını döner. Duşun dışındaki telefonunun ışığı yanar. Onu görünce suyu kapatır, telefona bakar. Mesajın Eren’den geldiğini görür, oflar. Duştan çıkar. Bornozunu giyer. Kafasını duşun kapısına yaslar, derin nefes alır.

 

3) PROVA SALONU DIŞI / İÇ - AKŞAM

Prova salonunun dış kapısı… İçeriden Begüm’ün şarkı söyleyen sesleri gelir. Vural koşarak elinde ayakkabılarla odaya dalar.

 

4) PROVA SALONU / İÇ - AKŞAM

Begüm bir anda içeri dalan kişiyi görünce şarkı söylemeyi ve piyano çalmayı bırakır. Vural bunun üzerine özür diler ve çıkabileceğini söyler. Begüm ise utanmış bir şekilde kalması için ısrar eder ve işinin bittiğini söyler. Kısa bir sessizlik olur. Begüm notalarını toplamaya başlar. Vural, Begüm’ün sesine iltifat eder ve şarkının adını sorar. Begüm ıkınıp edinip cevap vermekten kaçar. Vural da şarkıyı Begüm’ün yazdığını anlar ve şaşkınlığını belli eder. Begüm iyice utanır. Tam gidecekken Vural Begüm’ün sosyal psikoloji dersi alıp almadığını sorar, bir yerlerden onu anımsadığını söyler. Begüm bunun üzerine aynı sınıfta olduklarını söyler. Ama diğer derslerde onu görmediğini ekler. Vural da bilgisayar mühendisliği okuduğunu ama çok ilgisini çektiği için hocaya yalvararak dersi aldığını söyler. Begüm bölümünün çok keyifli olduğunu, muhtemelen bilgisayardan daha zevkli olduğunu anlatır. Vural kod yazmanın dans etmeye benzediğini anlatır. Begüm güler ve bunun saçma olduğunu iddia eder. Vural da güler.

1) CLASSROOM / INT – DAY
Pınar Hoca lectures on social psychology. The sounds of pens writing… the ticking of the clock… someone sipping coffee… keyboard tapping… All these mixed sounds form a melody. Begüm hums along. Vural’s feet tap rhythmically in sync with the melody. The sound of this melody grows louder. Begüm notices the tapping feet and turns her head toward the sound—left. Vural taps to the beat and makes small dance-like movements. Begüm smiles. Vural notices this and turns his head. Begüm looks away, embarrassed. Vural smiles.

 

2) BATHROOM / INT – LATE AFTERNOON
Begüm has her head tilted back, eyes closed, letting the water flow over her. Then she washes her face and turns around. Her phone, just outside the shower, lights up. Seeing this, she turns off the water and checks the phone. She sees the message is from Eren and sighs. She gets out of the shower. Puts on her bathrobe. Leans her head against the shower door, takes a deep breath.

 

3) REHEARSAL ROOM – OUTSIDE / INT – EVENING
Outside the rehearsal room… Begüm’s singing can be heard from within. Vural runs in with a pair of shoes in his hand.

 

4) REHEARSAL ROOM / INT – EVENING
Begüm abruptly stops singing and playing the piano when someone suddenly bursts in. Vural immediately apologizes and says he can leave. Embarrassed, Begüm insists he stay and says she’s done anyway. A short silence falls. Begüm starts gathering her sheet music. Vural compliments her voice and asks for the name of the song. Begüm hesitates and avoids answering. Vural realizes she wrote the song herself and expresses his surprise. Begüm becomes even more shy. Just as he's about to leave, Vural asks if she’s taking a social psychology class—he says she looks familiar. Begüm replies that they’re in the same class but adds she hasn’t seen him in others. Vural says he studies computer engineering but begged the professor to let him take the class because it really interested him. Begüm says her major is really enjoyable—probably more fun than computer science. Vural explains that coding is a bit like dancing. Begüm laughs and says that’s ridiculous. Vural laughs too.
